On the latest Catholic Moments podcast (#122) Lisa Hendey interviewed a woman who walked the Camino, all by herself! Here's the link:

For anyone interested in the Camino de Santiago, you may want to check out a cd by violinist, Oliver Schroer entitled Camino.

www.oliverschroer.com/camino.htm

He stopped in most of the churches along the way and recorded his fiddle on a portable recording unit. It is especially poignant considering a short time (18 months) after recording the album he died of cancer. A beautiful album and tribute to all those on a difficult journey.

Manya,
Thanks for posting the Camino link for your readers. I definitely NEED to start seriously planning for this pilgrimage. As I mentioned before, my sister and I have been discussing this for years but something always comes up and we keep procrastinating. We're thinking now sometime in the next 2-3 years or so that we can seriously train for it. I'll keep you posted on my progress (or lack of!) :)
Peace & Prayers,
Yvette

Manya,
Thanks for the reply and congratulations on your first year (just read that!). Yes, my parish is St. Stephen's in Miramar, Florida, and yes, your blog appears listed on the front page :) Here's the link if you want to take a look: http://www.ststephenparish.net/index.cfm

As far as the Camino, there are many great websites but many of them are in Spanish (including the Archdiocese of Santiago website which has detailed and practical information for pilgrims). I did find an interesting blog in English from the UK "Camino de Santiago". It's very good and includes info. for those thinking of doing the pilgrimage. That site is: http://www.caminodesantiago.me.uk/

I will be sure to log on often to read keep up with your posts. Thanks again for sharing with us.

Peace and Prayers,
Yvette

Yvette,
I'm so glad you found us. And I'm thrilled to have a link on your parish's website! Thanks for letting us know that there's actually more than one Camino route...I had no idea. AND that there may be a movie coming out about the Camino...goodness, so much information. :) With the movie possibility, I'm feeling a bit pressured to get over there before it gets crowded!

Thank YOU for sharing! I hope you'll return often and leave more comments.
God bless,
Manya

Hi Manya,
I just discovered your blog through the recommended links page on my parish's website. Thanks for sharing your experiences and for the book recommendations! "Hiking the camino: 500 miles with Jesus," sounds wonderful...I'll have to track down a copy. My sister and I have been thinking of walking the Camino for some time now. From all that I've read and researched, it requires a great amount of physical preparation but everyone who actually completes the pilgrimage is forever changed spiritually. There are many wonderful sites on the Camino online, including blogs by former pilgrims with the history, information on the various places one can stay as one travels toward Santiago de Compostela. Most think of the 500 mile French route when they think of the Camino but there are actually several "caminos", some from within Spain and another from Portugal. I recently read that actor Martin Sheen and his son Emilio Estevez were working on a film on "El Camino de Santiago". Hopefully that will be released soon so more people learn about this very ancient pilgrimage route. Thanks again for sharing!
Peace & Prayers.

Deacon Tom,
Thank you for telling us more about Fr. Dave and about his book Rocked By God. I'll definitely pick that up, as I'm always looking for something that will connect with MY teens!
